When Pierre Dulaine (Antonio Banderas) decides to use his dancing talent to try and keep a bunch of New York public school students off the streets and out of trouble, he comes to realize that his ballroom methods clash with the students' hip-hop ways. He must figure out how to create a new style of dance in order to conquer the barrier that lies between them. In the process, not only do they create a new art form, but they also learn many valuable life lessons about pride, self-esteem, respect and honor.
